Labidochromis caeruleus is a very popular Malawi Cichlid which is known in the hobby for many decades. Especially the yellow kind is well-known. But, there are some variations in colour intensity. There are also white types, as well as light yellow, or yellow and white. The yellow one is offered mostly in stores. In the past I also had this type in my aquarium in the livingroom. In august 2008 we moved them from the living room to our breeding tanks. In stead of the "yellow" I placed this "white" variety in my tank.

This species doesn't become very large. The male in my aquarium is not yet full-grown, he`s about 8 cm at this moment, the females are a little smaller, about 6 to 7 cm. 12 cm, the females are 8 or 9 cm. The males have black chest fins, they are more white on females.

Labidochromis caeruleus is a peaceful fish, it only get a bit more agressive in mating time. As soon as mating is over, he leaves the females alone and he doesn't really seem to care what other fish are doing.

They will eat almost everything, but because it is also a "Mbuna", they will mainly get feeding like spirulina or shrimp-peas mix.
