Otopharynx heterodon is living in the deeper regions on rocky coasts, but also in the intermediate zones from rocks to sand. This is a species with a lot of geographic variants which can be found all around the lake. Depending on the place where it`s found they have a different color. This variant can be found near Hai Reef; this reef is also called Chimate Reef. In the lake the males of these species can grow to 13 cm, in the aquarium however they can grow taller because of a good feeding. The males can then grow to about 15 cm, females grow to about 12 cm. Otopharynx heterodon is in common a real peaceful cichlid. You can keep this species best with other peaceful species and multiple females in a large tank with enough places to hide. In the lake they are eating everything they can find. In the aquarium they are comfortable with any food. They take everything they get offered, like spirulina pellets, mysis, artemia, cyclops and shrimp-peas mix.
