Lethrinops sp."red cap" Mdoka


Lethrinops sp."red cap" is living in shallow water, in sandy environments in the neighbourhood of rocks and in the intermediate zones from rocks to sand. They can be found on different places in the northwestern part of the lake like Itungi, Chewere and Mdoka. This variant is found in the neighbourhood of Mdoka.


In the lake the males of this species can grow to 10 cm, in the aquarium however they can grow taller because of a good feeding. The males can then grow to about 12 cm, females grow to about 9 cm.


Lethrinops sp."red cap" is searching the sand for food and lives mainly of the invertebrates they find in the sand after jigging this. You can best keep this species with multiple females in a large tank with a lot of swimming space. It`s a quiet, peaceful cichlid which can be hold best with other quiet species from equal environments.


In the aquarium they are comfortable with any food. They take everything they get offered, like spirulina pellets, mysis, artemia, cyclops and shrimp-peas mix.
